thoughts on beatwaves

HI guys,

Wow I really like this app, this is the kind of stuff people have been dreaming of for a long time now so, thanks!

I do have just a couple of suggestions though;

1) There should be an "Auto Delete Notes" feature that can be turned on or off for each layer - this way the user could change the melody in every box instead of having to hit the notes over again in every loop cycle in order to remove them from the sequence.

2) Its great that you've designed a pitch control ("Tone") but what about volume (or velocity) for each layer... I mean common it's obvious.

3) Why can't I save a session?

4) is there a chance you'd add a feature that enables the user to select how many boxes to play (rather then just having one), then i could just flick through them (kind of like in the "Korg Electribe" app, if you're familiar with it).

5) since this app is free and you're selling the extra features... I think that if you add all the above as a bundle that includes all synths and drums and the Wave export feature then you've got a winner because this is a really intuitive musical tool (I'd even call it a musical instrument)

Thanks,

Amir

Greetings,

I thought I'd throw in my thoughts as well after playing with your app. I have no musical talent what so ever and I really enjoyed playing with your app! I've played with looping type apps before but the iPad, plus your interface design really makes it fun and easy to make music.

I agree with the above poster, being able to save your sessions would be really neat, especially if you had the ability to play and transition between them. I can see room for more controls like he also suggested but still it is a fun app :) Maybe it isn't he point of the app but it also seems to me that it would be fun to be able to put an end on your song. That was one thing I never could get the hang of when playing with garage band.

I also wanted to quickly comment on your pay model. Over all I like the model of free with activated features, but it can also get carried away. On the one hand I like I got to download and try the app and decide I really enjoy it. On the other hand you can quickly feel nickle and dimed (or in this case $1.99) to death. I hope you keep that in mind as you add new features that it can be a real turn off on an app. Bundles are nice on features and music sets, hopefully the system allows you to add things to a bundle and people who have already purchased the bundle can get at them.

Also to add a question to your Record Audio Feature. I haven't bought it because I'm still unclear as to exactly what it does. Do you simply get a record button you turn on and stop when you want to and it rights a file into the ipod area which gets synced back to your computer?

Anyways just wanted to say cool app!

Hey Devmage,

Thanks for stopping in and for sharing your thoughts ;)

To answer your question the record audio feature allows you to save your track as a music file or even a ringtone. You cannot save them directly to the iPod section of your app. This is a limitation of the Software Development Kit, not a limitation of the app. When you save a track, you have the option to email it to yourself or a friend. You can then drag it into iTunes or play it with your favorite media player. If you are creating a ring tone, you MUST drag it into iTunes.

Hopefully this clears some things up!

Apple should fix that! It is odd apps can put stuff in the photo area it seems! Why not the music? Thanks for the answer though!

While I CANNOT speak for Apple, I believe it is the same reason we are not allowed to move videos from the iPod section in Video Safe. It is a form of protection for them to keep media purchased from the iTunes store from being shared. It definitely makes sense from a business standpoint.

Hi,

I was actually using this app on my friends iPhone today. I fell in love all over again. I'm actually think about buy a new iTouch just for this app.
I just wanted to say that this app was amazing, but since I actually don't have an iTouch/iPhone, a PC or Mac version would be AMAZING!

Love the app,
Dylan
