Really Long Sync Time

They may appreciate it, but it goes against iPod philosophy. Video, photos and music isn't backed up by iTunes as it assumes that you have the "canonical" version of this data on your computer. The backup is designed to protect your application user data which isn't otherwise stored anywhere else. You at least need to provide us with a feature to switch off backup of the actual video and/or photo data (by all means continue to backup the other configuration and settings data).

I do agree that there should be an option to turn this feature off and we are definitely looking into that. However, as you mentioned iTunes assumes you have two copies of all of your movies, videos, etc. One on your computer and one on your device. So it doesn't back these up. If we do NOT include your stored media in the backup, there will be only the copy available on the device and should something happen to your device your irreplaceable media would gone for good. That was the logic for doing a complete backup from the beginning ;)

Cheers and thanks for the feedback,

Rand

Hi everyone, is there an update to this issue yet? I've had an iPhone for one month now, been working perfectly until I installed and started using this app. I am 99% certain this program is the cause of my slow syncing issues as everything was working quickly prior to using this app. I have a strong background in IT and am confident this app is the cause of the slow syncing. When are collect3 going to address this? The app sounded so perfect from all the reviews before I bought, and of course once I bought the app, I discover this. I understand that it's convenient to have a backup of the whole phone/program if something goes wrong, but it would make sense if users had the option of doing a monthly 'full' backup and incremental backups in the meantime while syncing through iTunes, rather than a 'full' backup of everything every time a sync is done in iTunes. When i make a minor update to my outlook calendar, and sync so that my iPhone is up to date, should it really take 30 minutes every time??? It used to take 1 minute max, and this is how it should be. This is really poor, pity I didn't know about this before I bought the app, I haven't reviewed it yet on the app store, I would like to give collect3 a chance to fix it, but I see this thread has been going on for quite some time now, seems I have no option.

Hi Rand, many thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear you are actively looking into the problem. I have shown several friends the app, who were about to buy it, but once I told them of the slow syncing issues, they decided against. I'm sure this is happening a lot with other people, it is in your interest to fix this ASAP. I understand what you are saying about backups etc, but who really wants a setup where it takes AGES to sync? It takes the good out of everything, it's like having a slow computer. I understand the logic of a complete backup from the beginning, but how many IT professionals do a 'full backup' every time? The smart ones implement 'incremental' backup strategies, this is what you should be doing too. If you don't, one of your competitors will. I look forward to getting this requied update soon. Kind Regards, John.

Hi,

Is there any update on this issue - VS has become unusable for me due to backing up the photos & videos during sync. I sync my phone most days and cannot afford to wait an hour for sync to complete each time.

Please please can we see this disabled (or an option to) in the next release - and can you give us a hint as to when that might be ;-)

Thanks!

This problem is still driving me mad, if I add one small file to video safe, the whole lot has to be synced next time I sync in iTunes, gigabytes of data!! Can you not develop some kind of 'incremental backup' style option whereby only recently changed data is backed up instead of the whole lot? This is a major flaw and should have been addressed long ago
